Hi All,

I have question regarding LS20031 GPS Receiver.
Does newly bought GPS receiver need to be re-programed in other to work with Gluonpilot module?
Can this be done by connecting GPS receiver to Gluonpilot module and than program it through FTDI cable?

I'm asking this because i don't have any experience with GPS modules. LS20031 is powered using 3.3V and FTDI cable that is used for Gluonpilot is 5V. Will I need an additional 3.3V FTDI cable to reprogram GPS module?

No the gluonpilot configures the GPS module.
In the gluonpilot configuration tool, you need to configure the default baudrate of the module. This can be done by connecting the FTDI cable to the gluonpilot module.

See http://www.gluonpilot.com/wiki/Bench_testing#GPS and http://www.gluonpilot.com/wiki/Config_Gps
I will add a screenshot of the correct tabpage in the configuration tool!

Hi All,

For my Gluonpilot module i decided to use Locosys LS20031.
I just started to look for a distributor in Europe and I came to a point where there are different types of this module:
- 1Hz (9600bps)
- 5Hz (38400bps and 57600bps)
- 10Hz (38400bps and 115200bps)

Which of above would be the best?
I guess 5Hz should be the one I should be looking for but the question is does the boundrate really matter?

Hi Lukasz,

You can go for the 2th or 3th option. I only tested the 2nd option, but the 3th should work as well. The start-up baudrate can be configured in the configuration tool.
Performance-wise they will be about the same.

Thanks Tom!
Do you know any resellers of those modules in Europe?
I had a contact to German reseller but the communication with them is really poor.

Ok..i think I decided which one to buy - 10Hz one.
In the specification document i found following outputs:
GGA,GLL,GSV,GSA,RMC,VTG

Will this be ok for Gluonpilot?

Gluonpilot only needs RMC and GGA. On startup it will configure the GPS to switch to 5Hz and output only these 2 sentences. It will also change the baudrate to 115200 baud. Some GPS modules remember these settings, while others forget it at reboot... so some experimentation with the config tool might be needed.
