Telemetry without extension board?

Postby cassini » Wed Feb 15, 2012 6:30 am

Hi,

Is it possible to have wireless telemetry without the extension board, just harder to setup?

Unmanned Tech says - "if you are interested you can always just purchase a telemetry kit for ardupilot mega, as this one works with the gluonpilot, its installation is just not as neat."

They're talking about this kit - http://unmannedtechshop.co.uk/Ardupilot ... emetry-Kit

I'm only asking due to a problem that our team has - we can't afford the new extension board (and we don't need any OSD). Alternatively, are there any spare/cheap old extension boards around?

Thanks.

Yes that is possible.

Alternatively you can buy similar components from Sparkfun: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9132
These will need some small tuning because it is built for 5V and not 3V3: http://gluonpilot.com/wiki/Ground_contr ... _solutions

Anyway, the most expensive part will be the XBee modules...

OK great. So just to clarify - with that 'ardupilot' XBee kit, I wouldn't need the extra regulator board since it includes the XBee FTDI board which includes regulation right?

Yes, It will only be a matter of connecting GND, 5V, RX and TX pins to the gluonpilot.

Hi Tom,

Just received the kit i linked to above. It doesn't seem to be configured quite right. I have all the wiring correct. Using X-CTU, i can see that both board are configured to 57600. I think these are version 1, not 2.5 - according to X-CTU, reading the firmware gives -

- MODEM - XBEE (XBP24)
- function set - XBEE PRO 802.15.4
- Version - 10EC

maybe change the baud?
thanks

changed the baud on both to 115200 - no change.

gluon has constant green led and flashing red.

xbee connected to gluon has constant blue and orange leds on. xbee on the ground has constant blue on.

If it is version 1, you should set the destination serial number of both XBee's to the other one (serial number has a low and high part).

Baudrate should be 57600.

Ok, reset the baudrate.
I can see Destination Address 'High' and 'Low', and Serial Number 'High' and 'Low' (can't edit the serial number). Which need to change?

at the moment the destination address's are all 0.

Thanks.

You'll need to change destination address high and low

hmm, tried setting all to 0 and all to 1... no change..

I assume the board is set correctly for 5V? There is a blob of solder between two of the bottom pins and between the middle and '5V' jumper on top.

Any other ideas?

thanks.
